As part of the 2026 quality initiative for the Hamburg–Hanover connection, this central railway line is undergoing comprehensive modernisation. Measures include the renewal of tracks and switches, the further development of signal box technology, and the modernisation of several stations and engineering structures. In addition, work will be carried out on the overhead lines and underground cabling to ensure that the infrastructure remains efficient, robust, and reliable in the long term.
