Re-connecting Eifel.
Following severe flood damage, the Eifel line between Cologne and Trier, a key rail link, is being completely rebuilt and modernised. Tracks, bridges, and level crossings are being renewed. In addition, signal boxes and control and safety systems are being repaired and upgraded. Electrification will make the line more robust, efficient, and future-proof for reliable and climate-friendly rail transport.

“The project encompasses extensive measures in structural engineering, track superstructure, underground cable construction, overhead line systems, control and safety technology, telecommunications, drainage, and grounding. Implementation will take place in sections during ongoing rail operations and within specified track possession periods. This requires close and continuous coordination between numerous specialist planners, construction companies, testing agencies, and the project management team at DB InfraGO AG. According to current plans, the line is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2028.
ahc GmbH is responsible for key project management tasks: our focus is on schedule management and planning and interface coordination across multiple contract packages and construction phases. We manage the planning and schedule management under the special constraints of section-by-section implementation, ongoing rail operations, and fixed track possession periods.
A significant part of our work involves coordinating the technical and scheduling interfaces between the planning disciplines involved, the construction companies, the testing agencies, and the project management team at DB InfraGO AG. In doing so, we support the management of testing and approval processes and ensure a reliable basis for decision-making.”
